Oman Sail delivers economic benefits to the Sultanate through sailing

As competition for the Laser Radial Women’s World Championships reaches a climax in Mussanah, representatives from the organising committee and key supporters hosted a press conference at the Oman Olympic Committee Headquarters to discuss the economic benefits that sailing and, in particular, hosting major international sailing events, brings to the Sultanate of Oman and its people.

Oman Sail has successfully trained over 40 Omani girls aged 8-12 from government schools as part of the ‘Women’s Sailing Initiative’ in partnership with Occidental of Oman, Inc (Oxy Oman). At a special ceremony held at Oman Sail’s headquarters attended by parents, Oman Sail coaches and mentors, Oxy Oman’s representatives recognised the achievements of the newly-certified instructors and schoolgirls.

China and France secure RS:X World Championships – Speed sailors Peina Chen and Pierre Le Coq crowned World Champions in Oman

The RS:X World Windsurfing Championships in Mussanah, Oman, concluded in spectacular style today with the Medal Races producing nail-biting competition and two extremely worthy world champions. Peina Chen, the 26 year-old super-fit Chinese sailor confirmed her overall win of the Women’s World Championship, while an eighth place for Frenchman Pierre Le Coq in the Medal Race was enough for him to retain his leading position and secure the Men’s title.

The RS:X World Windsurfing Championships in Mussanah, Oman delivered another cracking day of competition for opening races of the Final Series. Winds that reached 13 kts mid afternoon for the Men’s racing was enough to create thrilling speeds both upwind and down and impressive tactical racing. With the newly formed Gold and Silver fleets – determined by rankings from the Qualifying Series earlier in the week – and the fact that for many countries, and sailors, this event acts as an Olympic qualifier, competition really intensified today.

Thrilling start to RS:X World Championships in Oman as China and France take the lead on opening day

The RS:X World Windsurfing Championships in Mussanah, Oman, got off to a spectacular start today with all six scheduled races completed in 10-11 knots of breeze. Racing for the 145 athletes is split into two fleets – men and women – and each fleet has a Blue and Yellow group selected according to daily rankings. Each group contests three races per day in the opening qualifying rounds.
