Oman Sail, in collaboration with their training centre “Zimam,” together with Oman Paralympics Committee (sponsored by BP Oman), launched the “SailFree” programme. The programme – which is a para sailing programme which targets the physically impaired and empowers them through the sport of sailing – is the first of it’s kind in the Sultanate.

Programme aims:

  • Introduce the candidates to the sport of para sailing

  • Build the skillset of the participants in order to achieve a high level of expertise in para sailing

  • Develop the participants physical and innovation skills

  • Train participants in order to overcome challenges and difficulties in the best way

Programme outcomes:

  • To develop an Omani national para sailing team which will represent the Sultanate in international para sailing tournaments

Stage one:

  • 105 participants will be selected in this stage

  • Three leadership programmes will be delivered on:

      • Batch 1 – 12th to 14th of March

      • Batch 2 – Dates to be confirmed

      • Batch 3 – Dates to be confirmed

  • Candidates will be selected for try sailing on the following dates:

      • Batch 1 – Dates to be confirmed

      • Batch 2 – Dates to be confirmed

      • Batch 3 – Dates to be confirmed

  • 30 candidates will be selected to move on to the second stage

Stage two:

  • 30 candidates will be selected to complete the second and third phase of try sailing. This will be delivered by Oman Sail and the National Training Programme in every sailing school in Al Mouj, Muscat and Sur.

  • 12 participants will be selected for stage three.

Stage three:

  • 12 participants will be selected to join the national para sailing team

  • Weekly training sessions will be provided; starting with six (6) students in Al Mouj training facility provided by Oman Sail; and six (6) students in the sailing school in Sur.
