Mussanah once again takes centre stage as Oman Sail hosts the 2021 Asian 49er and 49er FX Championships. A strong fleet of 50 male and female sailors from across Asia will race over five days to be named Asian Champion. The event will also see guests from around the world take part as they train ahead of the upcoming World Championships later this month, also held in Mussanah.

Rashid Al Kindi, Director of Sailing at Oman Sail, said, “We are excited to welcome this prestigious championship to Mussanah and reacquaint ourselves with some of the best sailors from across Asia. Many competed here before the Olympics in the Mussanah Open Championships. Sailing is still finding its way back after a long break and to be able to host high profile events safely in Oman is not only a great honour but a sign of the confidence placed in Oman Sail by the Asian Sailing Federation. The standard of sailing is incredibly high and we look forward to a week of great action in the pristine waters of Mussanah.”

Racing began on the 5th November 2021 with registration and a practice session. Competition takes place every day through to the 9th November when the leaders will compete for honours on the final day.

As soon as the competition wraps up on Tuesday, Al Mussanah Sports City will begin preparations to host the 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 World Championships taking place from 16-21st November, the opening ceremony and first leg of the 11th edition of Sailing Arabia – The Tour kicking off on 24th November 2021 and the 50th Youth Sailing World Championships, one of the most significant competitions in the sailing calendar, starting on 11th December 2021.
