BP Oman and Oman Sail have signed a new agreement to provide leadership training and development for students from across Oman in an exciting initiative, the Khazzan Young Leaders’ Programme.

The students, 50% male and 50% female, will be selected from different universities and colleges around the Sultanate and will each spend an intensive three days in Mussanah, home to Oman Sail’s leadership and development centre.

The programme is launched as part of BP’s Social Investment initiatives in collaboration with BP’s partner Oman Oil Company for Explorations & Production (OOCEP) and follows on from last year’s hugely successful BP Young Leaders Programme – another joint initiative with Oman Sail – where 1,400 young people took part in experiential, multi-activity programmes, including sailing, designed to enhance and develop interpersonal skills through land and sea-based outdoor education.

Students in the Khazzan Young Leaders’ Programme will be trained in a similar format by 8 young apprentices previously sponsored by BP. BP’s support of these apprentices enabled them to earn valuable employment with Oman Sail; they now have a full-time job and are benefitting from delivering a variety of Oman Sail’s schools, youth and corporate training programmes.

Participants will learn how to set goals, build teams, manage challenges and make difficult decisions which are key skills that will increase their employability and ease the transition from the academic to the working environment. Knowing how to communicate and developing interpersonal skills will also be addressed along with problem solving, boosting confidence and applying discipline as team leaders.

“We are delighted to renew our contract with BP Oman to build on last years’ foundations and launch the Khazzan Young Leaders Programme,” said Oman Sail CEO, David Graham.

“BP Oman has an incredibly active and vibrant Social Investment Programme and their aim to empower Omanis in driving Oman towards a self-sufficient and progressive future ties in seamlessly with ours at Oman Sail.”
BP Oman’s President Yousuf Al-Ojaili added: “BP views social investment as an integral part of its business here in Oman and the Khazzan Young Leaders Programme, named after one the biggest projects in Oman, will help us achieve our vision in supporting local social, cultural, and educational projects.”
