A Competitive Showcase in Oman

Following a successful track-record in hosting international sailing events, the Sultanate of Oman has garnered worldwide attention as one of the world’s most exciting event hosts and emerging tourist hotspot. The eyes of the sailing community will turn to Oman during the Mussanah Open Championship 2021, which will also act as the Final Olympic qualification for Asian and African nations.

The Racing

Racing will be structured to include six days of qualifying featuring 102 sailors from 16 countries across all five classes before the highest performers breakaway to achieve their goals and to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games.

Oman’s coastline is a paradise for

Sands and deserts occupy the remaining area; these include two large sand deserts – The Wahiba Sands known as Rimalat Al Wahiba and part
of the Empty Quarter (Rub Al Khali).
Here you can learn about Bedouin culture, camp under a dome of stars and experience the beauty of dawn in the desert.

The mountains cover approximately 15% of the country’s land mass.
Oman’s main mountain range is the 10,000 foot Al Hajar, which runs from Musandam in the North to the extreme limit of the Arabian Peninsula, Ras Al Had.

Tropical climate is what Oman is known for whilst still subject to seasonal changes. From October through to April, the Sultanate oers a
lovely climate, with an average
temperature of 23oC. Combined with welcoming hospitality, warm seas and
stunning landscapes, you can see why tourism in Oman is a growing industry.

ARRIVALS INTO OMAN INCLUDING COVID-19 PROTOCOL

Arrival into Oman will take place between March 14th and March 25th 2021. Teams will arrive by air via Muscat International Airport or by road from the United Arab Emirates.

All travel guidelines will be adhered to by all teams prior to arrival to Oman. These are currently:

  • All attendees of the event arriving into Oman will be required to undergo a PCR test at least 72-hours before their scheduled arrival and to present a certified medical certificate of a negative COVID-19 test result.
  • All attendees of the event arriving in Oman are required to have international health insurance covering the cost of COVID-19 treatment valid for one month.
  • All attendees of the event will be required to pre-book the PCR test to take upon their arrival in Muscat International Airport. This can be done through the Tarrasud+ app. Event attendees will be required to pay the relevant test fee.
  • All attendees of the event to download (Tarrasud+) application prior to arrival in the Sultanate.
  • All attendees of the event arriving in Oman from any country will undergo another COVID-19 PCR test on arrival, wear Tarrasud+ bracelet and then be transported directly to the Millennium Hotel, Al Mussanah via an official event vehicle (80 Euro charge for return trip).
  • All attendees of the event will stay at the Millennium Hotel, Al Mussanah. No other accommodation will be allowed to be used throughout the event period.
  • Upon arrival at the Millennium Hotel, Al Mussanah, all attendees of the event will follow the hotel’s COVID-19 procedures.
  • Event attendees will be required to quarantine within the Millennium Hotel for 7 days from arrival before they can go on the water.
  • During this quarantine period, all attendees agree to follow the guidlines set out by the event organisers.
  • Any attendees who have received a COVID-19 vaccine, must travel with their vaccination certificate and will be exempt from any quarantine procedures.
