Young Omani sailors are celebrating having achieved great results at an international racing regatta held in Bahrain. Members of an Oman Sail team took the top two places in the Laser 4.7 class at the Al Bareh International Regatta.

Abdul Malik Al Hinai produced an incredible performance to take 10 wins from the 12 races held, securing a clear overall victory in a fleet that also included racers from Egypt, Kuwait and Algeria. His teammate Ali Al Saadi was the winner of the other two races on his way to taking second place on the leaderboard. Al-Moatasem Al Farsi was placed fourth with Albaraa Al Nofli in sixth.

“All of our Laser 4.7 sailors showed great skill and determination to come away with such good results,” said Mohsin bin Ali Al Busaidi, Oman Sail’s Youth Sailing Manager.

“It is also true to say that Abdul Malik was outstanding and the whole team is proud of what they have been able to achieve.”

Conditions at the Bahrain Maritime Sports Association Club House – the venue for the Al Bareh International Regatta – included some very strong winds. Oman Sail coaches along with Team Leader Ghalib Al Mamamri decided to withdraw the 10-strong squad of Under-11 Optimist sailors from the races to ensure their safety. Starting next Sunday, they will all now begin a three-week training camp in Mussanah to prepare for one of the highlights of the year, the Oman Sailing Championships, which will be held from 1 – 7 August, in the Optimist, Laser, Windsurfing and 29er classes.
