As part of an initiative to develop leadership and inter-personal skills among young people, Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production (OOCEP) and Oman Sail have concluded a three-day pilot Future Leaders’ Programme in Musandam. The programme targeted young grade 10 and 11 schoolboys in Bukha, Khasab, Dibba and Madha in order to develop their self-leadership as well as creativity, confidence, teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.

The pilot programme reflects OOCEP’s commitment to enhance skills and improve employability among the youth in in Musandam. More than 100 youngsters participated in the first programme, held from October 27th to 29th, along with a second programme in Dibba from February 14th to 16th.

Dr Salman Al Shidi, Director General of Management of Petroleum Investment at the Ministry of Oil and Gas said, “This programme reflects exactly what it teaches: team work and leadership. Both OOCEP and Oman Sail have set a live example of cooperation and initiative in developing Omani youth with a clear objective in their plans.”

Said Al Badaie, OOCEP’s External Affairs Manager commented, “At OOCEP, we believe in the value of developing personal skills and the positive impact they can bring to organisations and individuals alike, as well as the difference it can make to the employment opportunities for young people.”

“The Musandam Future Leaders pilot programme was another successful step on the path to creating a long-term programme that will impact on employability across the whole region.

“The partnership between OOCEP and Oman Sail has the potential to transform hundreds of young lives by making a meaningful intervention at a key stage in their personal development,” added Al Anbouri, a former elite sailor in the Oman Sail project.

Oman Sail’s Corporate and Personal Development Team has delivered a variety of programmes and training sessions for schoolchildren, students and young people held across the Sultanate, all with the aim of developing valuable new behavioural and interpersonal skills.
