In a beautiful gala dinner ceremony held at the InterContinental yesterday (3 January 2012), HE Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Sports Affairs, honored Oman's Laser team sailor Ahmed Al Mashari, during a celebration of honoring Omani sports heroes who excelled in the year 2011 by winning laurels for the country at various regional and international event.


Ahmed Al Mashari was honored due to his achievement in winning the Bronze medal in the Laser Standard class at the third GCC sailing championship that was hosted in the Kingdom of Bahrain last year in June 2011, and became the first Omani sailor to win a medal in the championship after facing stiff competition from 32 sailors representing several GCC countries including: Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and United Arab Emirates.

Commenting on the achievement Al Mashari said: "I am very happy to be honored today. The achievement the result of the collaborative support by Oman Sail and Ministry of Sports for providing us all the necessary requirements and pre event international training camps in order to prepare us for such big regattas. I thank my team and I will continue to work hard to raise the Omani flag in the podiums around the world."
