We are sailing in a high pressure area at the moment with 0 to 2 knots of boat speed. The temperature is going up to 40 and the humidity is unbearable. Sailing in a free wind zone is very hectic, but we're trying our best to sail through this area soon and reach the Omani waters.

Over the past few weeks, Oman Sail has been working on some new initiatives to increase our online offereing and making it easier for fans to follow us and get involved in discussions (Our Facebook Fan Page), to get snippets of information about the programme (Twitter) and to follow Majan as she competes in the Indian Ocean 5 Capes Race (www.Majan-A100.com). Both boats are making good progress down the coast of Oman and have passed the first cape of Ras Al Hadd. They are now heading further out to sea in a southeasterly direction and will start to head further south in the next couple of days.

At 2pm today, the two massive multihulls of the Oman Sail project, Majan and Musandam, will leave Oman in their wake as they start their next adventure in the Indian Ocean 5 Capes Race. They will cross a line just off the Muttrah waterfront and head down the coast of Oman to the first cape, Ras Al Hadd, before turning directly south for the Maldives.

04 February 2010 05:24Busy First Day At Extreme Beach Event
The public beach at Al Hail was a hive of activity today as 800 people came down to watch the sailing, compete in the Beach Football competition, play volleyball and cheer on the Red Bull Street Games event. Families and groups of friends crowded along the waterfront to watch the excitement of sailing and listen to the expert commentary being broadcast live. Tomorrow promises to be another busy day with even more activities and the final races of the Extreme Sailing Series.

03 February 2010 13:22Rumbo Almeria Take First Match Racing Win
In an action packed day of near perfect conditions, the team on Rumbo Almeria had their best day on the water yet with a dominant win in the first ever match racing competition of the Extreme Sailing Series' 3-year history. They beat Oman Sail's Masirah in an exciting final with a strong wind blowing and giving the teams very quick downwind legs taking less than a minute to cover the distance. The Wave, Muscat suffered unfortunate sail failure which took them out of the competition in their first race.

Today the Extreme 40's are playing hard in the match racing just in front of The Wave, but it has also been busy with Al Zuhoor girls school out sailing with Shirley Robertson and Majan out with special guests such as Nabil Al Busaidi. The beach next door is also starting to get busy in preparation for the Extreme Beach Event with Beach football, volleyball, Red Bull street style, HiFM and Hala FM broadcasting live and much, much more (including watching the sailing....!). 03 February 2010 05:39The Land vs The Sea
Today sees a new format to the Extreme Sailing Series with a full flight of 14 match races. This sees two boats against each other as opposed to the full fleet racing for points. A round robin will end with an overall winner by the end of the day. To add to the excitement, two Omani role models will be on the water on the Omani boats- Mohsin Al Busaidi and Nabil Al Busaidi. Although they are not related, they do share a common interest in pushing boundaries and representing Oman around the world. Mohsin became the first Arab to sail around the world non-stop when he returned in March 2009 and soon after, Nabil became the first Omani to conquer the North Pole. In January 2010 he summited Mount Vinson in the Antarctic and plans to conquer Everest in the near future.

Jewel of Muscat naming ceremony was held today at The Wave, Muscat under the patronage of HE Abdul Aziz Al Rawas - Advisor to His Majesty. The Jewel was named by HE Abdul Aziz Al Rawas and HE Goh Chok Tong Senior Minister from Singapore with the presence of HE Dr Rajha bint Abdul Amir and HE Sayd Badr Al Busaidy and a senior diplomatic delegation from Singapore.

31 January 2010 15:37Extreme 40's Race to Muttrah
All six Extreme 40 catamarans started their practice race today at 11.30am. They set a course from The Wave, Muscat to the old part of Muscat and Port Sultan Qaboos. All teams enjoyed perfect sailing conditions and the lead changed places regularly. All teams came on shore looking forward to Monday's racing when everything will count.

30 January 2010 14:01Oman on top form at Jumeirah Regatta, Dubai
Both Oman Sail teams are on top in the Jumeirah Regatta after the first day of racing in Dubai. The BAE Systems sponsored Lasers are in the top half of the fleet with Musaab Al Hadi in third overall but finishing the day with a first place. Suleiman and Abdulatif Al Wahaibi are leading the Hobie 16 fleet with results still to be published in the 'open' catamaran fleet.
