As part of the broad appeal of the Try Sailing programme- Oman Sail is very happy to announce that one of the capital's orphanages will be coming once a week to Try Sailing. Initially there will be 16 children, a mix of boys and girls.

Majan has delayed her departure from Cape Town by a day and will now leave the V&A on the 10th March. The delay is due to the popularity of the boat and crew and further visits.

Ahmed Al Maamari and Abdullah Al Busaidi have left the Chinese city of Qingdao on their next leg of the race. They will cross the Pacific Ocean to the American west coast city of San Francisco in California.

In a press conference held in Paris yesterday Oman Sail announced their long term plans for increasing the awareness of Oman as a tourist destination in France as well as continuing the training of Omani sailors to a professional level. The announcements included participation in the Route du Rhum with Majan, a team in the Tour de France a la Voile and that Loick Peyron will return to Oman Sail to race the Extreme Sailing Series once again, this time as helmsman of Masirah.

At 16h 02m 57s the first of the A100 class racing multihulls, Majan, crossed the longtitude for Cape Agulhas. This marks the second cape of their 5 cape target and before heading for their 3rd, at Cape Leeuwin, Australia, Majan will berth at the V&A in Cape Town.

01 March 2010 06:11Musandam Returns Home!
Musandam returned to her berth at The Wave, Muscat this morning after successfully sailing to the Maldives and back. In the meantime she was been sold to an interested party that is going to do The Route de Rhum race in October. The original intention was that Musandam was going to keep Majan company on the Indian Ocean 5 Capes Race, however she had some technical problems with the sail and Oman Sail decided to bring her back safely to Muscat, complete the refit, and handover the boat in good time.

Last week Oman Sail was involved in Oman LNG's week long celebration of sailing with their sailing instructors. Oman Sail brought dinghies in which members of the Sur public were invited to experience sailing. Oman Sail is very happy to say that 95 people took the opportunity to try something new and many said they would like to sail again!

The National Sailing Squad, Hobie 16 team pairing of Mohammed al-Alawi and Akram al-Wahaibi secured third place on the podium with a bronze medal at the 'Sail the Gulf' regatta in Qatar. Full report to follow shortly.
