Despite a humble beginning in temporary offices at the far end of Marina Bander Rowdha, Oman Sail has very ambitious goals in training and education – goals we are well on the way to achieving.

School children enjoying the inagural Sailing Schools RegattaTraining is at the heart of our sailing programmes, from the grass-roots sailing schemes for Omani youth to our development of Omani sailors who can compete and win at the very highest levels internationally.

Our sailing programmes introduce young Omanis to the sport, sometimes for the first time. Sailing - even at a very basic level - combines physical exercise, mental stimulation and teamwork to provide increased self-confidence.

This contributes to Oman's socio-economic development by making Omani youth more attractive to employers through teamwork and problem-solving, and by creating job opportunities in sailing, shore support and tourism.

Then for those with real aptitude and talent, our sailing schools constitute the first step on their way to our national and international sailing teams. The international successes our elite sailors have already achieved provide real Omani role models for the young – and these successes are just the beginning.

Then by creating a renaissance in Oman's maritime heritage, and giving the youth real practical experience of it, we are reconnecting the young to their own history in a much more direct way than a history lesson ever could.
