The Mussanah courses represented the first all-important rung of the ladder, according to Mohammed Al Belushi, Centre Manager of Mussanah Sailing School. “Over the past 12 months we have seen 27 athletes from Oman Sail, including 11 youngsters under 16 years of age, represent their country in international regattas and competitions and they all started in courses and programmes like this, so we are excited to see which of these youngsters grab this opportunity,” he said.

Mark Donderwinkel, Country Director of Thales Oman added: “It is great to witness the enthusiasm amongst these children and to spot these youngsters who have a glint in their eyes for success. We are proud to be associated with this programme and look forward to playing a part in producing the next generation of Oman’s sporting athletes.”

The level two courses are well underway with children enjoying a series of fun and educational coaching sessions focussing not just on sailing but on other activities – and challenges – that are proven in developing vital life skills. Both courses have been designed to engage and excite new young sailing talent, who given the training and support can work towards representing Oman at an international level in a variety of sailing disciplines. Oman Sail has pledged to rekindle Oman’s maritime heritage and after setting up four sailing schools, is on track to achieve that aim.
