You are never too young or old to try sailing and Oman Sail is making it even easier by extending a general invitation to join them on the beach at Shaati Al Qurum, Muscat, jump on a boat and discover for themselves how much fun being out on the water can be.
Oman Sail will be running two full days of action packed sailing activities from dinghy and keel boat sailing to even hilarious antics on banana boats on 20 and 21 September. But be sure to register early as only 300 people per day can be accommodated between 10.30 am – 5.30pm each day.
The weekend sailing extravaganza follows the highly successful first Try Sailing event organised by Oman Sail in October 2010 where participants quickly discovered that no previous sailing or boating experience was required, just an adventurous spirit and enthusiasm to get involved and enjoy an introduction to one of the fastest growing sports in the Gulf region.
But it need not only be a one-off fun day on the water as Oman Sail offers many opportunities for enjoying sailing as a regular sport, as a leisure activity to enjoy with friends, for corporate team building or as a way to relax and entertain clients and business associates.
A wide range of corporate packages is specially designed to combine physical exercise with mental stimulation while encouraging a healthy competitive spirit. The attributes required for these activities are complementary to the world of business and will require hands on and tactical awareness as well as the ability to problem solve singularly or as a team.
Activities on offer range from sailing on the thrillingly fast Farr 30 keelboats with top Omani sailors showing you the ropes, to enrolling at one of three sailing schools for a dinghy sailing course accredited by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), or going the exclusive route by chartering a fully crewed 44 foot luxury catamaran for special day or overnight getaways.
This is one of the best ways to discover Oman’s beautiful secluded beaches, enjoy tropical nights and days out on the ocean with up to 12 guests for a day trip or eight if it is an overnight excursion.
Other fun water sports activities that can be tailored for family or corporate groups are offered at the beautiful Mussanah and Bandar Rowdah marinas not far from Muscat and include kayaking, banana boating, powerboat rides, water skiing and wakeboarding.
Since the launch of Oman Sail four years ago close on 8000 young Omanis have been through youth, women’s and community sail training programmes where they have learnt valuable life skills and seen how sailing can present many sporting and career opportunities.
The very best sailors have already progressed to Oman’s national sailing squad where they are making their mark and proving worthy ambassadors for Oman as they learn and grow by competing in a range of high profile international and world championship events around the globe.

This event is in collaboration with Muscat Arab Capital 2012 and supported by the Ministry of Tourism http://www.omantourism.gov.om
