Action Packed Day 4 In Muscat

Brute force was the name of the game today for the penultimate day of the Extreme Sailing Series Asia. The wind swung 20 degrees further east soon after midday and with the shift came a warm 30-knot wind and some furtive glances out to sea from crewmembers on board the Extreme 40s. Photographers were also smiling as the three main elements they wanted were all there; wind, waves and blue sky.

The Oman Sail National Sailing Team returned from Dubai today following a successful weekend of racing at the Jumeirah Regatta. The regatta, one of the highlights of the UAE sailing calendar, attracted international competitors and the competition was tough. Conditions for the fleets were challenging, with unpredictable light winds coupled with a choppy sea state.

On February 1st, the final of the Extreme Sailing Series Asia will kick off at The Wave, Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman, with six international teams competing for the inaugural title. The Series will end on a high with the Extreme Beach Party, a two day grand finale for the public over the Omani weekend (Thu/Fri).

Muscat, Sultanate of Oman: Six teams of the world's best sailors, racing radical 40-foot catamarans will take to the waters of Muscat for the finale of the Extreme Sailing Series Asia . This event has seen six of the world's best teams battle it out on Extreme 40 sailing boats on racecourses in Hong Kong and Singapore... and now they arrive in Muscat for the final that takes place from the 1st-5th February. Global brands such as Red Bull and BT back these racing teams, and China has also entered a team for the first time.

Today, Sunday 5th september 2010, HH Sayyid Haitham Al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture, presented Saleh Al Jabri with one of Oman's highest honours- the Medal of Honour. Bestowed upon him by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, it was presented to Saleh in light of his momentous achievement in taking the Jewel of Muscat from Muscat to Singapore.

With three events of the Extreme Sailing Series now complete in France, UK and Germany, Oman Sail’s Extreme 40 The Wave, Muscat stay on the podium, finishing third overall in Kiel leaving them second overall for the series and still in contention for the overall title.

Kiel, Germany provided some truly tricky conditions for the two Oman Sail Extreme 40s on the penultimate day of racing in Germany of the Extreme Sailing Series. Oman Sails Masirah, had a good day on the water finishing second overall going into the final day of racing, their team-mates on The Wave, Muscat had an altogether more exciting day.

At 09:03:55 GMT (13:03 local time Muscat) today (24/08/10) skipper Sidney Gavignet (FRA) onboard OMAN AIR MAJAN crossed the finish line off Lizard Point, Cornwall to smash the single-handed Round Britain and Ireland record. The A100 trimaran broke the existing record held by Thomas Coville by a massive 1 day 15 hours 30 minutes and 44 seconds.

Mohsin Al Busaidi joined His Royal Highness Willem Alexander, Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Netherlands under whose patronage Sail Amsterdam 2010 took place on Thursday the 19th and sailed on board a DAMEN built Stad Amsterdam Clipper that led the opening of Sail Amsterdam with the presence of thousands of spectators.
