Day 71: Upwind and heading north 19 March 2009
Full on night again in rain clouds bringing squalls of up to 30 knots of wind and sudden wind direction changes of 60 degrees. After a great day sailing yesterday making good progress, the building clouds and occasional lightening around dusk were the advance warning signs of a long night ahead.
Day 70: Equator crossed 18 March 2009
The equator crossing meant a gift to Neptune, he got a couple of books and some spending money, I hope he can read and enjoys the books. We would certainly like good fortune for this final stretch.
Day 69: Final sunrise in the South17 March 2009
If the wind stays as it currently is (we are taking nothing for grated) then today will be Equator Day and last night will have been our last Southern Hemisphere sunset, and the sun rising just now will be our last of the South too....
Day 68: Looking for a way out 16 March 2009
The last 12 hours have been fairly hard work, we have changed sails, got rained on (heavily) and manage to move just 15 nautical miles. We hope now to have found some slightly more consistent wind and perhaps things can improve from here on.
Day 67: Testing our patience 15 March 2009
Everyone is more tired than normal, for sure the heat is debilitating and dramatically reduces your appetite, so natural energy levels are low through not eating enough and no adrenalin to keep alert and sharp.
Mohsin hits the road14 March 2009
Starting at the Ministry of Tourism, the key supporter of the Oman Sail project, the 'Good Luck Mohsin' roadshow began this morning, Saturday the 14th of March.
Day 66: Limited choice in little wind 14 March 2009
Although we are still in very light airs, we have managed to move a few miles, we have had two lots of 2-3 hours where progress has been reasonable. In roughly the right direction for us - north west. We need to get north west to get clear of the light airs that are holding us.
Day 65: Slow to NO progress in the Doldrums 13 March 2009
There is no wind, there hasn't been more than 9 knots for 24 hours and the average has been 4 knots for last 24 hours. We are frustrated of course, but we understanding that as sailors we live and die by the wind and we must take the rough with the smooth.
Day 64: Searching for the wind 12 March 2009
Last night we had some incredible cloud fun, getting stuck under a couple of massive ones with torrential rains and huge shifts and increases and decreased in wind strength. Big blasts of warm and then cold air, full on doldrums conditions.
