Tour de France a la Voile

The Tour de France à la Voile is an annual yachting race around the coast of France. Inaugurated in 1978, it links the English Channel to the French Riviera and is held from June 26th to July 25th.

Famous skippers have taken part in the race, including Loïck Peyron and the three time America's Cup winner Russell Coutts. The race is, however, not reserved for professionals, and it also attracts amateurs and students thanks to three distinct rankings.
The race visits around ten harbours along the French coast. It includes one or two day coastal stages - that vary from year to year - as well as intensive regattas at the various ports. The boats are transported by road (trucks) midway through the race from stages held in the Atlantic Ocean to those in the Mediterranean Sea.

The Boats
Every team sails on the same type of boat so that only the sailing skills of the teams are judged and not the boat engineering. The boats are about 30ft long and are designed for racing with a crew of 7-8 sailors. For the 2010 race, Oman Sail will be campaigning a Farr 30 sponsored by Ranaissance Services and called Renaissance. All boats in the fleet are matching Farr 30's but this is the last year in which they will be doing so. As of 2011 the Tour will be sailed on Archambaut 34's.

The Crew
In keeping with the proven ethos of Oman Sail to date, the boats will be a mix of proven international sailors and young Omani sailors who are being trained. On board Oman Sail's Renaissance will be the following crew:

- Nico Honor – Shore Manager
- Robert Greenhalgh - Skipper
- Anthony Haines – Bow and Boat Captain
- Yassir Al Rahbi - Crew
- Abdullah Al Farsi - Mastman
- Nawaf Al Gheedani – Second Bow
- Ali Al Balushi - Crew
- Nasser Al Mashari - Pit
- Nat Ives - Navigator
- Cedric Pouligny – Helmsman
- Phil Hamer - Trimmer
